Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Navy submarines vs amateur submarines vs turist submarines

.....Speaking of books, and to punctuate what you and Peter just said about collecting knowledge, I would like to share with those interested, the following purchases I made just yesterday.

1) Midget Submarines of The Second World War , Paul Kemp

2) Introduction to Naval Architecture, Gillmer / Johnson

3) Concepts in Submarine Design, Rydill / Burcher (This one was recommended by Sean some months ago)

As I have said before many times, I wish to see more successful PSUB's

Joe

After all the majority of submarines are weapons, and the do things that are just fantastic by any standard and kill surprisingly few crew members in the process.

All of cause in a "slightly" simplified form. The only non - naval stuff on Freya, Kraka and UC3 is the viewports. Having made just over seven hundred dives in these boats - I feel that I can say the concept of copying and simplifying navel principles of submarine operation works.

I can certainly see the idea of a K250 - or the Nemo - or Sgt. Peppers - but the operational problem with these boats remains how to get out there. The Euronaut - and Anders Jung´s Marlen and my own Kraka - and UC3 are all examples of psubs with a navel submarine in the stomach...and if I did not think that was a feasible way of doing it - I would not have welded on the bow of her today...
