That guy's full of #%$@.........
You don't need anything special in equipment to weld hy 80. It's all in the
set-up and fit-up.
If you want a good, all purpose welder, buy a good quality ( Miller or
Lincoln ) wire feed. Then practice on all kinds of metal, all positions, and
thickness.
For basic farm type stuff, use flux core wire. Fast, easy, and cheap. For
something a little more finished, use shielding gas ( can be CO2, argon,
tri-mix, helium, or any number of choices.)
For really special stuff, make a temporary shield ( chamber ) and attach it
to the back of the weld ( duct tape works fine ) and pump it full of shielding
gas too. With lots of practice, you'll be welding space shuttle quality in no
time.
Just match the wire to the metal you're welding, and you'll be fine.
I've been welding for 40 + years, from building forklifts with my dad on
our farm, structural steel up to 3/4 inch thick for govt. projects, nuclear
medicine exhaust systems for Stanford University, kitchen work ( sinks and the
like ) and even learned how to weld a beer can ( really thin )
Get some scrap, and burn it. You'll do fine with practice. It's all in the
set-up and fit-up. Frank D. AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at AOL.com. |
