RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Great Update on the old K-250 sub in Sandpoint

Hey Jon,

Wonderful

I'm guessing from what I've heard that George built 12  K-250 style subs for VAST and a number of others later on?  Do you know how many K-250 subs he built, and how many of those had the old style 1/4" thick saddle collar? If this is the sub built for Brooks Institute of Photography, then if I understand what your saying about the identifying marks on the VAST subs, that the Brooks sub wouldn't have that type of marking.

Hi Brent,

Here is George's reply.
With the twelve subs I built for VAST, we used to weld a number, starting with 101, on the top forward plate that holds the fore MBT framework. With the other subs, I don't think we did anything because they were pretty much custom built.

Regarding the plans that came with the sub, I know George told me that he only started selling plans after he closed up his manufacturing shop.  So it's another indication (but not confirmation) that the sub was home-built.

Jon

Thank you again for contacting George. We don't wish to bug him, just honor his legacy. I talked to Tevis Cox this evening and he should be here on this forum shortly.  He said they bought the sub from a guy in Bayview, Idaho just south of here perhaps some 8 years ago.  Bayview is were the Navy does allot of submarine sonar testing. Perhaps when Tevis's dad Don gets home from vacation he will have allot more data for us on history and such. There was original Kittredge K-250 plans that came with the sub. I would venture to guess that George would of provided plans to the people he build them submersibles for, or it is just a sub built privately from his plans.
