RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Great Update on the old K-250 sub in Sandpoint

Hi Brent,

At this point, you need to take a number and that number is 2010.  So you have plenty of time to finish that K-250.  Here's the projected list of convention locations for the upcoming future.

2007 - Michigan
2008 - Rockland, Maine
2009 - Florida
2010 - Idaho (in January maybe?)

Since we're on the topic, I might as well let everyone know what we're planning for 2008.  In 2008, George Kittredge will be 90 years old so we'd like to hold the convention in Maine to honor him.  The date would be set to coincide with the annual "Maine Lobster Festival" (usually in August) which is a weekend event involving parades, merchant setups, photo ops with King Neptune and Blackbeard the Pirate, and even a "Sea Goddess" pagent.  This is a big shindig that the Navy and Coast Guard usually participate in as well.  And of course, there is the lobster.  For more info, visit http://www.mainelobsterfestival.com

There is LOTS of water (sea water) around Rockport which should provide ample opportunity for those wanting to dive.  I'm hoping we can get a good showing of submersibles to this event, stick George in the conning tower of either a K-250 or K-350 that one of you owns, and then join the parade.  Afterwards it is a perfect opportunity to set up for static display and show off your subs to the public.  This is not a small event, so I expect lots of curious onlookers.  Probably in the fall of 2007 I am planning on approaching the organizers of the festival to suggest they consider in someway incorporating a tribute to George as part of the festivities.  If we get enough PSUBBER participation, we may be able to convince the Mayor to proclaim one day as "George Kittredge Day"?  That would be fun.  Also, the event sounds like it would make an excellent "family" vacation for those of you who normally miss your wives (cough...cough...) at our regular conventions, or want to bring your kids for a fun time.  You will see by visiting the festival website that there are plenty of events and fun for all ages.

Jon

How many PSUBers do we need again, to have a convention here in north Idaho??  Ya know the lakes here are amazing and we might be able to go down to Bayview, Idaho and see some navy subs if we ask nicely. Like I said before I'll make a handmade pair of snow shoes for any PSUBer that moves up here.  So Joe, aren't you tired of all that hot muggy weather and the hurricanes yet??? You could bring Jay with ya. We'll make room for him and he can keep working for the Navy at Bayview. : )'  You would fit in like a quill in a porcupine. What can I say, I'm a submarine half full kind of guy.
