As with most engineering questions, the answer to yours is "it depends".  
Austenitic stainless steels are inherently almost non-magnetic.  AISI Types 
316 and 316L (or the corresponding casting specification CF-8M) have a 
magnetic permeability of about 1.008, which is almost negligible.  Where this 
behaviour can change is with significant cold working such as drawing (as is 
the case in the manufacture of wire rope), which forms martensite in the 
steel and changes its magnetic behaviour.  316 is quite resistant to this, 
but still can exhibit some magnetic response after cold working / hardening.  
Fortunately, this can be eliminated if the material is returned to the fully 
austenitic condition by stress relieving it after working.
