Another informative resource on the topic of stiffened cylindrical
shells and their three buckling modes, is in the book "Submersibles
Systems Vehicles Design", starting on p.274. This book is listed on the
website and is reader friendly and applies to subs. I had an interesting
time getting a hold of this book, does anyone else have it?

As I don't have an engineering background and I am learning as I go, I
found
the document useful when endeavouring to understand the different modes
of
failure that are associated with the design of adequate stiffeners for a
pressure hull. 

It has some very good illustrations which allowed me to associate the
different terms used in the ABS document with a visual example. This may
also assist others when using Dr Redus' excellent ABS spreadsheet
available
on the Psubs Website.
