RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] ANDROS VISIBILITY

Jay,

If you have local information on the practicality of logistics for
diving a K250 there I'd be really interested as well. For instance, if I
shipped Snoopy, should I do so with the trailer and can you think of
places to launch the sub or keep it while it's out of the water? I took
Snoopy to Florida last year and had a hell of a time due to the length
of tows and the currents. My conclusion is for Southern Florida I'd need
a sub with a surface speed of 4 knots and an endurance of 10 miles, and
that's just not anything a K-250 can ever do. I've been in communication
with Karl Stanley about shipping a sub in Roatan, and while the
logistics there are ideal, shipping costs to get there are probably much
higher than to your neck of the woods.

Thanks,

Alec

Hey there Rick,

Ya want some motivation?..... I'm sure Jay will give you the local scoop

but, to wet your appetite a bit...here's a description from a local dive

shop........

"The Andros Wall begins around 70-90 feet and plunges down 6,000 feet
into
the Tongue of the Ocean. Some of the best spots on the Wall are: Hanging

Gardens Wall, a pristine spot at 100 feet that drips with sponges, sea
whips, and gorgonia; Giant's Staircase, at 120 feet where the Wall drops

down by giant steps into the 6,000-foot abyss. Turnbull's Gut, where
divers
slip into a crevice at 90 feet and shoot down to 120 feet and out over
the
Tongue of the Ocean; Whip Wire Wall, a multi-level dive where the top of
the
wall starts at 80 feet and as you go over at 120 feet the sheer wall
begins
with whip wire corals protruding.

No where else can you feel so clearly the grandeur of this underwater
Grand
Canyon. All these dives are No Decompression multi-level dives."

......so get your butt down here, and I'll paddle across the Gulf Stream
with
you!

Joe

PS Vancouver may be more "Sub Silicon Valley" than "Sub Mecca" eh?
Looks
like Minnesota is where the pilgrims end up though, I believe 5
operational
psubs.
