Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] making hemispheres [was "manipulator arms"]

Yeah, I think so - but just for purposes of building a mold, right?  I was trying to think through your idea of the inflatable ball and then how to integrate it into your main hull shape - even if your main hull cross section wasn't circular.

It seemed possible to me that even if you're doing a Typhoon-type hull (kind of a faired double cylinder, right?) your ball idea might let you produce a nice, fair nosecone that blended into the main hull cross section.  Maybe you'd need something more flexible than a workout ball - something like one of those little weather balloons.

Otherwise to produce a fair, complex plug for a nosecone I guess you'd look at carving foam?  I think that inflatable ball idea of yours might be a creative shortcut that gives a better result.

Hi, Paul - do you mean strap it into the nose and build scantlings up to it?

Well, maybe if "Fit Lady" sponsers the boat.

I wonder if you couldn't constrain the ball with a hoop and get the proper diameter and shape to fit your hull.

Yeah, you'd want to avoid having a "Fit Lady" or somesuch, logo on the center of your nose!
