I get that all the time too. If it's not the
nigerian scammers, it's an e mail trying to sell me viagra or some
other

kind of pharmacutical from outside the country. I
have my e mail configured so that I can read the message without

actually opening it completely so hopefully I won't
get a virus by completely opening the wrong one. I have two virus

protection programs installed on my computer. As
soon as I see the bogus message or ad, without completely opening

it, I just block that sending from sending future e
mails, but they switch their addresses and keep sending them
anyway.

I don't think it's a worm or data miner necessarily
doing it, I think somehow those con people send
out bulk e mails to

everyone. Not sure how they get our addresses
unless someone from our internet services
provider is selling them our e

mail address information. When you sign up for
internet service they say they don't sell your e
mail addrss to anyone, but

how would we know if they did anyway? How would we
know e bay didn't sell our e mail addresses too?
Almost everyone at

any site will tell you they will not ever release
your information to anyone, but if they can get
paid to do so, how would we

know if they lied to us? That's the problem with
the internet, we don't want government regulation
and taxes online, but as a

result people do all kinds of illegal things online
and it is very hard to catch them. I've also always thought that viruses were

largely started by companies wanting to sell
you anti virus protection. What great job security. They pay one of their techs
to

create a virus, send it out, infect everyone, then
sell everyone anti virus protection. Common sense tells me this is true.

It is too easy and
too unregulated and unenforced for them NOT to do that.

What I find especially sickening are the nigerian
pleas "In the name of God" for us to send them our bank account numbers so
they

can share millions of dollars with us and that a
"friend" or "God" directed them to contact us. Using the name of God in scamming

people I think is especially evil and there is a
special place in hell for people who do that. That also includes the t.v.
evangelists.

Bill.

    Rick,

      I get "African
Letters" as I call them all the time. As you mentioned it can be fun to
play with them.  I had one who corresponded me for a month, sent me
pictures of a project that they wanted me to invest in
  etc.
Another interesting "scam" is those who want
you to be the middleman and process checks for
  them.
In addition to not giving them your bank
account number don't give them any information about your self i.e. phone
  number, address etc.
