Hi Pierre,

No, they are not all the same. Check out this web page for a description of
Sofnolime:
http://www.metacut.com/rebreathers/sofnolime.htm
As you will see, it is a combination of calcium and sodium hydroxide. If I recall, straight sodium hydroxide can be nasty stuff and can be very corrosive. CO2 absorbant is formulated in porous irregular granules to increase surface area for gas contact. It also has a color indicator which turns the granules from white to purple to indicate when it is exhausted (although this should not
be relied on to determine the useful end of life of the scrubber).

Hope this helps a little.

Hi guys!

My questions:

Am I right in assuming that Softnolime, Sodasoft, Caustic Soda, Sodium
Hydroxide and (NaOH) are all the same thing?

In other words, Can I buy a bag of NaOH from my friendly local chemical
supplier (the legal one) and put those pellets in my life support system
without having to worry about growing a third arm or something?

Anybody actualy used that stuff before? Or am I the first to go where no-one
have cheaply gone before?

Thanks!
