Hi Pierre,

I was thinking that a hopper full of steel ballbearings with an
electro-magnet at the mouth.  That way you could control the
weight release speed by turning off and on the electro-magnet.
In event of a powerfailure, the electro magnet keeping the
ballbearings in the hopper will shut off letting the ballbearing
out at a rate determined by the size of the hopper mouth.  So
without power the sub would return to the surface at a safe speed.
