I like the hydraulic idea.
Lik it too. Altough some more complicated than mechanical.

You could also insert a "knife" for the cables if the drop is battery pods. Think like 2 plates with a hole in them. side motion to cut the wires.

It is good to be creative. sgt Peppers has a drop battery keel and I am designing new electrical connectors for it. I calculated that at operating depth, the water pressure will keep connectors larger than 40 mm "connected" despite 100 kg keel is pulling!!

Another simple idea for drop weight release is using a small hydraulic pump to actuate a small hydraulic Ram to drop the weight. This system is easy to implement and does not rely on electricity. With this you get the mechanical advantage of hydraulics to drop the weight, and the penetration can be set
anywhere where is convenient. I have seen these being used sucessfully to
drop led trays with 5 Tons of led.
