Guys - could we carry on the politico-intelligence
aspects of submarine use off-list?
Thanks

Radar, it stands for Radio Detection and Ranging.
That will be ineffective in location of submarines.
Sonar, it stands for Sound Navigation Ranging, an acoustic pulse
in the water and measures distances in terms of the time for the echo of the
pulse to return. That would be consider an active ping.
Passive is when instead of send out a pulse you turn on the second half
and receive other pulse form other vessels.
SOUND. Regardless of what coating is on it, will vibrate
through the water. Which will pulse through the water and can be
detected by any type of sonar. (a good example is a sound powered
phone)
I
apologize for the disagreement, but however, though I may not have very much
technical knowledge on the construction of a submarine, I do have military
knowledge, and though I have found it humorous to sit and listen to others
about such matters, I cannot help but point out their mistakes.

Even in WW2 the germans were experimenting with
a rubber coated submarine to defeat detection by radar.
Seems to me that we should not put all our
trust in sonar. All that has to be done is to bend that sonar wave around an
object and it will not bounce off it to return to the sonar man on board.
Hence....invisiblility.
We used similar technology in our stealth
fighter aircraft. Who would have thought years ago that a plane could defeat
radar?
Kindest Regards,
Bill Akins.

Seems there is allot of dislike of the U.S. Navy.
However speaking off the record, it is very doubtful that any kind
of sub surface vessel could be used effectively against a US Carrier,
due to several reasons...most of which should be common sense...and
some which will not be spoken.
Regardless of no prop to move
the vessel, if moving, it will be detected by sonar, regardless of
means or propulsion, just like any other object in the ocean.

Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Seahorse news
Dubai is one of the safest
place in the world to live. Just not forget that the vehicle mostly
used by terrorist is a car, toyota or mitsubishi. The last concern
of designers (car, plane , boat) and now submarines is to the least
criminal use of their designs. Criminals have endless possibilities
from toaster to people to plant bombs so i am not going refrain
myself against innovation because of criminals. What is criminal is to
not let ourself prepared against such attacks, i designed a
submarine specially to prevent underwater attacks which has not
received any interest from the all powerfull US Navy. so i did my
duty and i am not going to open a bakery instead of selling subs
because somebody, someday might use a sub to blow up
something. however Al quaida reportedly already has acquired mini subs,
which i know are not from me. My scubajet is a breakthrough in
scuba diving, it is a low profile light diver propulsion vehicle in
a ergonomic backpack including a BC with no hoses or consoles sticking
out (HUB), you control propulsion with a bite switch in your mouth
piece which makes it hands free. optional is a small LCD mask screen to
display info, depth, speed, air capacity. There is no props, it is
true that if used with a rebreather it is difficult to detect,
remember that most diver detectors are passive, listening to
noises under the water, but rather ineffective anyways in a port
because of heavy activity generating noises, active sonars to detect
divers are also rather ineffective is such shallow water. Best
regards Herve
