Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] acrylic viewport thickness

Rick:

A 6 foot ABS certified view port starts at right around $100,000 for a depth rating of 300 feet.  And it would be about 2.5 inches thick.  Acrylic materials are bought and sold by the pound plus machining.

Phil - thanks for the feedback!

I'm at the point where I have to decide whether to include room for the
family or not. A pressure vessel would protect the kids from potential
barotrauma, but, the necessity for pressure vessel testing is yet another
impediment in a very busy Dad's schedule.

If I want the family to have a great view, but avoid the headaches that you
alluded to, I just may go with the ambient dry pontoon boat [see my MOKI
sketch]. I'll need loads of bottles to compensate the cabin, and limit the
family to less than one atm. over a shallow bottom [at least while they're
still growing].

Except for the pressure vessel aspect, I'll adopt your suggestions regarding
systems testing.

BTW, I'm thinking of launching at Jericho and doing the tests just inside
the dolphins at Spanish Banks. The water seems nice and clear, little
current, and if I mess up, the tide will ebb and I can yank the thing off
the sand.

Any thoughts on that area? Where did you field test DW? Similar reasons?

Warm regards,
Rick Lucertini
