You guys are knitting two colors of yarn here. The vacuum I mentioned is the result of operating batteries with hydro-caps in a "pod" defined for the purpose as a rigid pressure vessel. It isn't a huge delta, and will vent handily.
Compensated boxes, by definition, compensate for changes in external pressure, by equalizing that pressure from a bladder outside. It would work either way on small pressure changes. Gas releases (bubbles) take a little oil with them, and you have to add some every now and again. Otherwise, no problem until service time, and then you'd better put on your old clothes, because it's going to be a mess.
