Dear Vance.
What substance do you recommend potting those fuses
in that you refer to as "black goo". Some kind of thick grease?

Batteries don't spark in normal service. A salt water short circuit, or maybe
the fuse blowing (which is why you pot those babies in black goo) might light
them up, but if put together correctly, I can't see any way for it to happen.
Mind you, if there's only one thing you learn underwater it is that you always
learn underwater--maybe the other guys will input on this. Vance
