I haven't posted a response yet, just gathering more information as time allows. I'll try to post some more detailed information later in the week. For starters- look up the KHMD website and read what you can about the "Cylinder Molding" process. Also, currently the most common surface vessel species of wood used for strip-planking is Western Red Cedar for it's density/weight/strength properties. Its a good compromise of low-weight for high strength. What we'll need for submersibles might be something stronger though heavier.
