If you've ever read "I Boat Captain" by Zenji Orita it has this captain's account of the war in the Pacific through the eyes of the Japanese. The I-58 was one of those super large ( largest in the world at that time) subs that was capable of carrying a small airplane. The I-58 was the sub that sank the USS Indianapolis right at the end of the war. Those sub were so huge, they mainly used them for supply ships shipping food to isolated troops and also they carried petrol back to Japan.
