Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Golf Cart Motors? Good? Bad?

Curtis,

I don't have any direct experience using golf cart motors in a sub but I've
considered using one. As I recall they are about five horsepower. That's
quite a bit of battery draw but with a speed controller and a prop that is a
little under size, you could reduce the power output and power consumption.
The ones I looked at were quite large in diameter for the motor pod I needed
to put them in.

Basically it depends on your needs and design. There is nothing wrong with
a golf cart motor. Some may say stay away from a motor with brushes because
the carbon will build up in the motor pod, but looking at it logically, how
many hours are you really going to be using a sub compared to the hours that
a set of brushes last in a calf cart?

If you got them and they fit your design, use them!
Dan H.
