I don't have Autocad 2004 since I have kept up with the updates.
[ plus the $$$ ]  I'm still working with 12 and 13..

I also tend to do things the long tedious way.  I would create a layer
[ say 3? give it a label of course ]  import the jpg and then vector
or trace over it on another layer [  2? ]  with your sectionals and
diagonal plan form.  I suppose you could use polylines to begin
with and modify later.  You're basically ending up with a dwg file
then work your way up.  For nurbs, you may have to go Autocad
Inventor or Rhino.  But, you don't have to!  Autocad does a decent
solid model.

Hopefully, someone here can come up with a better solution.
