Perhaps a good place to start is history, specifically WW1 and WW2.

There have been extensive discussion on midget subs.  I would be
interested if the libraries in Tokyo have texts and drawing details of
Japanese midget subs?  Have you checked?

Also, check the pSubs discussion archives. You will find ample
references.
