[PSUBS-MAILIST] Pressurizing interior of pressure hull
I was looking through the USS Pampanito site. In the diving and surfacing
section under the technology section, there's mention of pressurizing the
interior of the sub.
Diving:
"Air is bled into the ship when green lights show that all hull openings are
closed. Watertight integrity is assured when the internal air pressure
remains constant."
Surfacing:
"During this interval, the low-pressure blowers, using air from within the
ship, are completing the blowing of the main ballast tanks and reducing the
pressure within the hull. Usually the pressure is equalized before the lower
conning tower hatch is opened."
Does anyone do, or plan to do, this with their 1 atm sub?
Marten
(I searched the archives and the only thread about pressurizing the interior
of a 1-atm was in the event of a leak)
