Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Scuttle valves & Divorce Court

Lady? Where?

Wanna be considered a lady, try acting like one.

The lady is on board, and she intends to stay, and to speak her mind, and she will not be told to shut up, or be called a bitch, or allow mothers to be slandered, or tolerate anything that is sexually offensive. The days of this being a male enclave are over. You boys should get ready for curtains on the windows, keeping this place clean, and watching your language from this day forward. If not, remember the saying, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." Let's begin with Dave, Carl, Erik, Norman, and most especially Stan, expressing their heartfelt apologies to me, and affirming their intent to treat me with the respect a lady deserves in future. And please, be sincere. If I detect any sarcasm, I will be most displeased, and you don't want that. If you guys will behave like gentlemen, maybe we can be friends. If not, prepare for the worst storm of all time. Gail

        Gail,
I certainly don't want to get between you and Carl, especially
when fists and finger nails are swinging around, but!
The way Fly Deep commented about a scuttle valve, by bowing out
of the list insinuating we're a bunch of fools for our "desire
to flood a submarine with freezing cold water," when clearly he
has no idea when, or why, a person would do that, he was asking
for everything Carl handed him. Yes, I agree, it did sound
condescending, and if Carl didn't mean it that he should have. We have had many come and go from the list. That's nothing
new. The ones that come in to learn and then contribute are a
real asset. Some of them get tired and move on also. Folks
come and go but the ones that benefit most are then ones that
come in, sit themselves down, and observe for a while. We learn
much more from listening then talking about things we don't know. Having said that, let me welcome you to the group. We probably
have a few other women here but I don't know. It's nice to see
you post as one. I know several women in engineering but none
of them are interested in subs. I'm sure you will be able to
contribute and be an active part of the group if you want to. Just relax, take it a bit easier and enjoy the comradery. You'll learn a lot and we probably will too. If it wasn't for
the internet and this group, my sub "Persistence" wouldn't be a
few months away from launching. It would still be just a dream.
Don't knock it until you tried it for a while! Above all, don't try reading between my lines. There is nothing to find in between them. I mean what I say and say what I mean. Again, welcome aboard,
        Dan H.
Maybe this response should have been off the list. If you think
        so, I apologize.

            Carl,
Now aren't you being just a little bit rude, presumptuous,
and condescending? How dare you talk down to "Fly Deep"
            like that?  You said you don't tolerate disrespect here;
shouldn't you practice what you preach?
I knew if I waited long enough you'd trip yourself up; and
it didn't take long at all. Now, let's see if the group
treats you like they did me. I'll bet they wont. I'll bet
they'll call me a bitch and tell me to shut the hell up
again. But they won't say anything to you.
Come on, PSUBS! Show us what you are really made of! The
            whole world is watching.
Best, Gail

Fly deep, what about you sub idea? From what I see so
                far, you aren't
allthat aware of what to do when your sub is
                un-resurfacable. IOW
you're on the bottom and the only way out is through the
                hatch...into
the deep blue sea...and hopefully NOT into the tummy of
                a big fish. How
do you plan on doing that without a scuttle valve? Open
                the hatch? do
you even comprehend the pressure you're pushing against
                at a mere 50'?
20'? Way more than you can fight. Unless your hatch
                opens inwards,
which alone is unsafe because of the very pressures
                we're talking about.
So your hatch will have to open outwards, and you're
                gonna need a
scuttle valve. Such is life, dude.
