Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] The underwater Centre

Happy new year Psubbers everywhere!

just thought i'd send a greeting and include a link that may be of interest especially to the UK members.
I'm sure many people have heard of the Underwater Centre in Fort William, Scotland.  I understand they have a reputation for being one of the best commercial diver training centres in the world.

I have just got back from a wonderful New Year in Scotland where i was fortunate to be able to visit the newly opened Ocean Frontier centre.
Apart from the facilities to be able to try out various commercial diving suits, there are a couple of ROV's available for use within their indoor tank and out in the Loch.
As i am trying to build an ROV at the moment the opportunity to fly £250K+ of kit was quite educational. but the more important aspect of the centre, at least to this group is they have a submersible which is available for trips, not one of those touristy type subs but this one is a three man version called 'Morzh'. As far as i know this is the only operational submersible in the UK offering this service that i have come across.
During the trip there is the opportunity to actually pilot the sub yourself however when i had booked my trip they had a technical hitch and the trip got cancelled.
Not too sure of the cost, i was originally quoted (and paid) £150 for a trip but i was told that the prices had gone up because the costs of running the sub were not being covered by the fee which is now somewhere around the £250 mark.

Anyway, hope this info is useful to someone, no doubt i'll be taking the 8+ hours drive back there in the summer to get a ride in it.

Best Regards
