Many thanks for this revelation, just shows that I need more education about
batteries. So catalyst disks seem to be the only way to go to prevent an H2
explosion. Sorry for giving bad and possibly dangerous advice, and thanks
for setting me straight.

Beware! Inert gas won't prevent a battery explosion. A battery will produce
both hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2), which can combine explosively (2H2 + 02
= 2H20) to create water (H2O), regardless of any other inert gas present.
