RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Blue-green laser (was: Empress of Ireland)

Stephen,

What kind of data would you need.  As far as real time goes, at the speeds we are travelling underwater .5 seconds to 1 second might be okay.  It takes a bit for these vehicles to respond any way.

I used to work in a cardiology department.  There has been much work using ultrasound to create 3D images of the heart.  Similar systems are used for oil exploration.  I have worked with the reconstruction algorithms.  It is not that difficult.  I'd volunteer to work on it if someone provided me with useful data.

You don't need sophisticated custom circuitry or DSPs if you are not picky of how fast your image refreshes.

You can use reconstructive sonar to create a detailed
3D image of your surroundings. The problem is that
this
is just out of the reach of all of us at this time. If
someone publishes the reconstruction algorithms I
might
be willing to give it a shot. So far only the US
military has done this work extensively. Naturally
they
aren't releasing any usefull data.
