FEA is Finite Element Analysis. In other words, you
make a model, define the materials and stresses, and
run a simulation. This can tell you how and where, and
under what stresses, the part will fail. This is way
cheaper and faster (not to mention safer) then
building
a series of test hulls to get the same information.
