[PSUBS-MAILIST] X uboat...

Good Morning:

Some time ago I read and reviewed a first edition copy of Nuremberg Trial, by G.M. Gilbert.  On 11 May 1946, Grand Admiral Doenitz of the Third Reich mentioned an experimental, possibly air-independent u-boat that was supposedly able to sail around the world without surfacing.  While his attorney advised him against using it as a bargaining chip at his trial, he thought it important enough to mention it to Captain Gilbert and advised him to report the existence of the supersub to his superiors.  He didn't want the Russians to get their hands on it.

Does anyone know what ever became of Doenitz's supersub?  I'm sure Herr Doenitz is long since on permanent patrol in... other regions... by now. But he may have written something somewhere.  I'm sure that anything that old would no longer be classified... though who knows for sure.
