I prefer that everybody should use metric - or both..
.. 5000 pound (2265 kg or 2,27 metric tons.)

For a 5000 pd sub you need a about 600 kg (1320 pd) trailer
so the car has to move with 6320 pd (2863 kg). 
The limit of my motorhome is near that border (3000 kg or 6632 pd)
so the size for the basis configuration should be in this area.
