Please don't take offense but I too am a real speed freak and despite the increased power consumption
I have found a sub that is fast enough to interact in the marine environment and really cover some
distance at more than a snails pace is far more entertaining than sitting in a slow moving mobile aquarium.

Streamlining even the proposed "lead sled" would be advantageous even for a slow unit with small thrusters.
You will never be able to do the rolls and aquabatics that a true flyer can, but it will definitely add
to the utility of the sub experience even for the experienced sub pilot.

The larger the frontal flat plane area, the greater the parasitic drag.
