The comment about the literary society is a good one. What I
had in mind for the Kittredge and Busby awards was recognition
of design and construction as more than writing. The Kittredge
award would be for hardware; the Busby, for spreading technical
information.
The Beach and Verne awards -- I really like the distinction -- would
be given out only when they we all agree they are deserved.
An important thing to recognize is that design, construction and
operations is an on-going thing, and needs to be recognized every
year. Literary activity is not at all ongoing in the same way.
I agree with you, Ray, that encouraging real work and hardware
is the primary focus here.
