Hmmmmm......   I don't recall gulls in Das Boot, either.    Now that
I'm thinking of it, I'd have expected them at the very end of the
movie.

I didn't know that.  We lost a nice man, from all I've heard about
him.

Isn't "Submarine Command" the one with Willam Holden?  Another 
good one is "Torpedo Alley."  It's hard to find.   One of the least
inaccurate is "Crash Dive."   "Destination Tokyo" is seen as a clip 
in John Wayne's movie "Operation Pacific"!  

And serious bit of totally irrelevant trivia is that Cary Grant has
been in three movies about the first six months of WW2.  He 
was the CO of the Copperfin in "Destination Tokyo," the CO of
the Sea Tiger in "Operation Petticoat" and a washed-out,
dried-up drunk in "Father Goose" (which also featured a sub,
rescuing him and the girls).

All of which reminds me: are there any movies about 
homebuilt subs other than "20,000 LEagues Under the Sea"?
