The idea seemed quite logical to me, but I worried that perhaps the

I don't want to ask.   The last time I suggested something to the
Navy I got a call from some security folk.

Indeed, hmmmmmmmm .....

As I said in the other message, I was thinking of using LLTV.  Mount the 
camera in a rotating turret, or point the camera out the windows of a 
dedicated "pilot house," for better visibility that I have now.   The
real
down side to that is the added complexity and power use.
