Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] BBC E-mail: Torpedo fuel to blame for Kursk loss

"He (Vladimir Ustinov - Russia's Prosecuter General) said the volatile
substance - hydrogen peroxide - used as its fuel (for torpedos) exploded
because of a complex chemical reaction."

It was, as he explained, " the result of an unusual process of events
inside the oxidising agent reserve of the torpedo." Wonder just what
events, anyone care to speculate?

"After the disaster, the Russian Navy ordered torpedoes of that type that
exploded to be removed from service."

Anyone care to comment on these highlights from the BBC news report about
that sinking?
