Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] pressure hull sizing
What excess air? The Carbon Dioxide scrubbers are
literally removing the co2 molecules from the air this by reducing the pressure
of the co2 gas in the cabin you are reducing the entire collective pressure of
the air in the cabin as well. This would be then compensated by adding in
extra oxigen gas. The important part of this kind of system to remember is
that you are converting the co2 you produce into a solid thus removing it from
the air entirely. There should be no excess air only the non gaseous
biproduct that is left in the scrubbers, which has little effect on the
cabin pressure. There is nothing to pump or vent out unitil you reach
the surface where, if you were not very careful in the controlling of o2
input, you may want a valve to equalize the pressure before opening
the hatch. There should be no need to store any gasses in tanks or
vent them into water.
It seems that whether you put the excess air into a tank, or vent it
(which seems a better idea), you will still need a pump, because as Adam said,
the surrounding pressure also increases. A valve would only equalize the
pressure, would it not?
