I found the letter. It's not a late-80s thing: I got in June
of 1979! It's from George A. Moak. He was the Coporate Manager,
Communications Services and Advertising, for Lear Sieglar, Inc.
The letter states that the Data and Controls Division (which
built the thing) was disbanded in about '68. The personnel
were reassigned and the whole thing forgotten.
He must have told over the phone that it was sold the
Russians. I know we talked two or three times.
Also in this file is a letter to Brazoport College, asking
about their Sportsman 600. I also contacted Santa Barbara
City college, and from them I got a copy of the DOWB
"pilot's manual" (it's a collection of xeroes of user's
manuals of the VCR and stuff like that, a couple of charts
of battery use). Art Markel signed a letter accompanying
an old brochure about the Aluminaut. Too bad I was
distracted by a wife, kids and employment: I might have
a nice sub by now if I'd maintained my focus.
