Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] hemispherical steel

Try to contact "Commercial Shearing and Stamping."  Do a search on the net, but phone call in person to sales.
I purchased two tank heads off the shelf that were 36" in diameter and 3/8 thick out of  A516 grade 70.  I don't remember the exact price but they were in one piece and at a much cheaper price than that.

When purchasing things like that, there are more than one price list they work from.  If you get the right person and work the purchase right, you can get it discounted.  After all it may be only one set your purchasing, but if your building a sub, you are the OEM and deserve OEM pricing.

In their Orange County Metal works, Commercial Metal Forming http://www.commercialmetalforming.com/ocmw.html has the capacity to make just about any kind of head up to 268" in diameter.  The good news is that they can fabricated any odd ball diameter head at a reasonable price. The bad news is they get this flexibility because they are stamped segmented heads, not single stamped heads. What you get from the works are four wedges and one dollar cap that you will have to weld to make up the head.  They also have a limited number of standard sized heads.  They are used to dealing with ASME A516 Grade 70 and 0.5" thickness is no problem.  The last phone number I had for them was 1-800-854-3307.  For a cost point, a 32" by 0.25" A516 Grade 70 hemi was quoted at $428.00 less shipping cost. Cliff
