I'm really not experienced enough to help because I don't want to pitchfork
your eyes out, but I'll try to analyze this thing a-little bit. I have to
assume that those pipes and valves may be under considerable pressure when
you blow ballast. If you can establish the psi that you will blow ballast
with and find the pipe that has greater psi resistance, then I would assume
that is the way to go.
I can give you a site where they have all the information you could possibly
publish just about any material from wood to metal to acrylic to everything.
It might take a little time to find it, but do a search and see if you come
up with something. If you don't find it on this scientific site, man, it
probably doesn't exist. They have all the scientific and physics data for
over 25,000 different materials, 25,412 actually.
The rest of the crew may be interested in this site also.

I hope it helps.
