Dear Alec,

You could try out vellum 2D, or Vellum Solids. We, in Uni. uses Mac and we 
are taught to use these programs as Industrial Designer. Its definitely much 
easier  compared to AUTOCAD. I don't really know the price but try checking 
out the link bellow. Hopefully, it  helps.
