[PSUBS-MAILIST] CAD packages
I don't know about software specifically written for the Mac, but I am aware
of several low-end PC packages that should run fine on a PC emulator such as
Virtual PC. I am not a Mac user.
I am not familiar with QuickCAD, but have used a package called TurboCAD that
seems to do the job. Also AutoCAD LT but I don't know what that sells for.
I have the luxury of working with programs such as Mechanical Desktop 6.0
and AutoDesk Inventor 5.3 - useful but expensive software.
FYI, I recall a story where AutoDesk was contacted by a student who had obtained
an illicit copy of their software. AutoDesk's off the record response was
that they didn't want to hear about it. The student was advised to go ahead
and use it, provided he didn't use it for business purposes.
It seems that the proliferation of unlicensed AutoDesk software is one of the
primary reasons for their market share, as one would be inclined to purchase
(in a business setting) software which you are familiar with, and their "don't
ask, don't tell" policy ensures that resourceful students will always be familiar
with the AutoDesk product when it comes time to make purchases.
Of course, I can't officially condone software piracy... that would be unethical.
