Air embolism, or lung rupture is possible in only 5Ft of water. This is a
serious matter and lethal, this is why anybody who wants to do anything with
submersibles wheather they are 1 atm or ambient pressure should take a scuba
class.
in an emergency situation, the scuba training might just save lives.
air embolism is not possible in free diving since the air inhaled in the
lungs is at 1 atm.
ambient sub can have top access or under the waterline depending on the
design, above or under water access is just a question of how to keep
buoyancy. But arranging top and underwater access both on the same sub is a
perfect way to sink the submarine in no time.
Drop weights: when a situation occurs when dropping the weights is THE
recovery , that means that the sub is really in bad shape, and there is not
a time to think of "how much" you release to prevent from going up to fast.
most likely you are taking water like crazy, so drop it all !!! immediately
!!! you are not going up too fast anyways, dont hold your breath.
Those subs where you drop weights one at a time or step by step are
extremely dangerous in an uncontroled descent.
Again with a scuba training you learn that in an emergency situation you
drop it all, right away.
Eventhough and as a matter of fact Most of the divers who died in scuba died
because they did not release their belt weight.
just my point of view
