The long pipe was an extension for the exhaust and muffler to keep it away
from the air compressor intake. That was how the Johnson hookah worked (the
one that sat on an inner tube.) I used it quite a bit that summer and I
don't think there were any ill effects... what was I saying?
The bigger problem was that is was not a diaphragm type compressor it was a
cylinder type that allows a little oil into the air supply - cough cough...
