Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Life support
Matt - have you looked to the F&A Page at Psubs ?.
Look at "Livesupport" and "Divetime" there.
Also there must be a lot answers in the archive,
Look for "Live Support" or "L.S.S" or "Oxygen" or
"Co2" etc.
In general you need a pure oxygen bottle and a CO2 scrubber system
in a dry sub. Theoretical you can also use compressed air and
an cabin constant 1atm overflow system. But this needs a compressor to
keep the overflow air outside the sub - or to compress it to bottles
- and is very unuseual. I have never seen a airbottle overflow live
support system in a submarine. Why carring a gas in bootles like air
if 79 % of them can not be use for breathing ? Why keep gas overboard
which contains at least 17 % oxygen - and is still useful for breathing
?
The simplest way for a L.S.S. is to use an Dive rebreather - a simple
small pure oxygen rebreather like they used to escape in Uboats during
world war II its all you need - if you like the mouth-piece. If not
you can rebuild the system with a electic fan to a open system
witch enclose the cabin. The CCR (Close cycle rebreather) page
on the internet are helpful also to understand the L.S.Systems.
