Hi Pirate,

A couple of reasons to keep the sail:

1. The bow wave rides so high up the hull when on surface the sail gives
the crew a bit more freeboard.

2. It houses a lot of antennas, periscopes, radar... With out the sail this
stuff would only be as long as the diameter of the hull. With this stuff
they can be as long as the diameter of the hull plus the height of the sail.
