This is the entry for him in Uboat.net:

                  Karl-Adolf Schlitt
Born on 16 Apr, 1918 in Laboe.
                  Crew 1937b. Kapitänleutnant (1 Mar, 1944).

                  Commands:
                  U-1206
                            Jul, 1944
                                           14 Apr, 1945

Apparently, the man is still alive and well.

And, from the same source, the Fate:

Sank on 14 April, 1945 in the North Sea near Peterhead, Scotland,
in position 57.21N, 01.39W, in a diving accident. 4 dead and 46
survivors.

This doesn't get me any nearer my own sub, though.
