It does pay to shop around. I spent $140 each for my three 950 amp deep cycle propulsion-type OPTIMA's. The nearest comparable Gel Cell (thanks for pointing out the difference, Ken) was about $125; and a heavy duty lead-acid car battery from SEARS (apples and oranges, but for the sake of comparison) was about $90 when not on sale.

AGM is an interesting technology. Lots of info on the OPTIMA website.
