Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] fabrication question
Hi, Jon:
Yup, you got it . . .perzactly. The essential benefit is the lack
of a machined groove, relying instead on a 'manufactured' jig to hold the
sealing ring in position and utilizing the already smooth surfaces of the
pipe and plate. There is no reason, of course, that the hatch must be a
flat plate - you can gas-axe a semi-sphere out of a propane tank and weld
it to a flat ring to give the domed hatch appearance dear to submariners
hearts . . .although for the depths most psubbers are interested in , a
flat hatch will serve . Weld a vertical cross on it if you want to go
deeper! Off to the salt mines . .'talk' to y'all, later.
