Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] low blood 02 levels

1 ATM subs are required to have 72 hours minimum of life support in case of
an emergency.
Do you put yourself in hibernation after that to extend your life expectency
for a couple of hours, or do you unplug right away?

good question, i think i would talk with my support vessel and find out just
how long it would take to get a diver or rov to hook a cable or lift bag to
me. taking the ativan first would calm you down (thus conserving air) and
your emergency 72 hour air will last long enough for the ativan to wear off
in case you need to help them in getting your sorry butt topside.
if i had no support vessel, i'd pretty much plan on dieing, release a
floating radio beacon, activate a pinging beacon, take the ativan first and
go to sleep with your reserve 72 hours of air being controlled
automatically, valve in some cold water if you dont mind losing ballast and
dropping deeper, or if you are resting on the bottom or in the net that
caught you.
if there was a good chance i could be rescued within the 72 hours, i think
that personally i would just go to sleep naturally and save the ativan to
the last.

ps - i want to hear everyone's opinion. would YOU keep a few tablets of
ativan(er whatever) on board for emergency uses? Carsten keeps cognac on his
sub just in case things go wrong, so why not keep a few narcotics right? ;)
