[PSUBS-MAILIST] Sub with arm
Stan,
One thing that was brought to my attention was the lack of weight of
most PSUB's, even with your ballast tanks fully flooded. To really do
much with a complex arm you need a solid platform to counteract the
movement of your arm and to allow you to put force on the things your
have grasped. I'm not speaking from experience here, my sub is still in
pieces, but when it was brought to my attention it made sense to me.
Vance and others can probably shed more light in this area. I already
had my variable ballast tank built and it looks small. I think I may
add another to get a bit heavier if I put on a arm.
This may be a foolish question, but than I have done some back yard,
picnic table, fish pond engineering myself a few times. But, a sub
could be life or death in a split second. I know you want to make a
hull out of some things you have on hand, but have you done any
calculations on your hull? Sure hate to hear about a guy that survived
65 years of backyard engineering getting squished like a grape.
Food for thought! Dan H.
