I use the same steel they use during WWII for the XXI boats.
The old name was St52-3 the new name is S 355 J2G3 .
Its a steel with a Rm of 510-610 N/mm2 (ultimate tensile strength)
and a Re (0,2 border) of 355 N/mm2 (yielding point).
The reason for that steel is that it is a high tensile steel
which is easy to weld - if not to cold.
For normal porpose for example the free flooding sail I use
RSt 37-2 or new name S 235 JRG 2 with a
Rm of 360-440 N/mm2 and a Re of 235 N/mm2.
Its about 20% cheaper than the St52-3 steel and easy
to weld.
For units conversion look for "units and metric" in the archive files..
